Sometimes you don’t need to go far to enjoy a “holiday”.
In early June 2022, one of the Argyle Travel and Cruise staff members headed to Adelaide for a weekend “holiday”, and here is what she had to say.
The Oval Hotel, located on King William Road, North Adelaide has been on our “must stay” list for a while.
Located in the Adelaide Oval precinct, The Oval Hotel is a relative new comer to the Adelaide accommodation scene. Upon arriving by car to the Adelaide Oval precinct, the hotel entrance is a little hard to find, however once you realise you drive down the entrance ramp from King William Street, grab a ticket and arrive at concierge, the rest is effortless. You can choose to pay for parking on a daily basis, at $29 for 24 hours or valet parking for $45 a night. The self park option is more than adequate and is in close proximity to the bottom entrance of the hotel, however you can only leave once every 24 hours. Valet parking is great and the only suggested option if you are staying when there is an AFL game on, which is a little frustrating.
The bottom entrance is beautiful. Jump in the lift to level 3, which will take you to reception. Upon entering Level 3 you are immediately greeted with a warm and welcoming space that is modern, open and beautifully styled. From the moment you arrive, the level of customer service is next to none - in fact the level of service is something that we have not seen at a hotel in Adelaide for a number of years. The staff were immaculately presented, explained everything really well and were extremely friendly. It was a lovely surprise to learn that you receive a complimentary welcome drink upon arrival which you can partake in at a time that was convenient to you. There is also complimentary espresso coffee and tea in the reception area, available 24 hours a day which was another welcomed addition.
We were directed to our room and upon entering discovered a beautifully clean and well layed out room. Although a little on the small side, it had everything we needed. The rooms have a beautiful view overlooking the Adelaide Parklands.
Everything is just at a “touch of a button” including automatic blinds and several 'mood' light settings which was a nice touch. The bathroom was of a great size with a lovely range of EVO body products. The entire menu, hotel facilities and compendium were located on an iPad, including the ability to make phone calls within the hotel or to outside numbers.
It was delightful to see an extensive pillow choice, again ordered through the iPad. It was also lovely to be able to order extra blankets, lush bath robes and slippers, knowing that they were coming to you clean and un worn. Another lovely touch.
With access to local television channels Netflix and Foxtel it would be easy to stay in. There is also an extensive and seemingly delicious room service menu. If you wish to dine in (which we didn’t as we had other plans), there is 2 lovely restaurants within the hotel complex: Five Regions Restaurant and Bespoke Wine Bar and Kitchen, which both hero South Australian produce and SA wine regions.
Over the duration of our stay we came and went a few times and every time the level of customer service was fantastic. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning.
What we loved:
The customer service.
The cleanliness and design of the hotel.
The proximity to the CBD.
What we didn't like:
A small gripe – only 2 sachets of coffee and sugar in the room and again when restocked!
Be wary if you are staying on an AFL game day. If you're travelling from the suburbs, it is frustratingly hard to get anywhere near the Adelaide Oval due to road closures and therefore the entrance to the hotel. If you happen to want to enter within 15 minutes from the end of the game you won't get in. Don't let this deter you - we highly recommend the Oval Hotel regardless.
To book your stay we would be delighted to book for you.
